Adventures At Home-10 Fun Ideas!

Adventures At Home-10 Fun Ideas!

For the last three years and counting, we have successfully carried out our goal to seek 52 adventures a year (~1 per week). And now, we, like much of the world, have been asked to stay at home. So as much as we miss visiting the little cabin at the lake and exploring new places, we will continue to stay home and focus on new adventures here, because this is important!

If you are looking for ways to satisfy your need for adventure while staying home, here are 10 ideas you can explore.

  1. Go on a virtual vacation or re-live a favorite trip. Find your photo albums, or visit a website and look for virtual tours of places yet to visit. Put on vacation clothes, make foods and drinks found in that part of the world. It’s been over a month since our trip Hawaii; so this morning I made banana bread to go with pineapple coconut tea we brought back from our trip. We don’t have a photo album of our trip, so this is the perfect time to stay at home and create one, while listening to ukulele music.

  2. Explore a favorite hobby or try a new one at home. My daughter is an artist and she recently helped me pick out some watercolor paint and paper to experiment with. It’s fun and I’ve found that painting helps to relieve stress, and since I’m brand new at it, there is no pressure to excel. Meanwhile, @modernnorthwoodslumberjack has made some cool Bluetooth speakers out of old cigar boxes and tool cases. I’ve been using them to…

  3. Listen to podcasts! Some of my favorites are The Happiness Lab, Office Ladies, Ted Radio Hour, Girl Camper, Dolly Parton’s America, Bad Batch, and the Dropout. There are podcasts on just about any topic you might be interested in, including ones that help you…

  4. Learn a new skill or even a new language. Sign up for Masterclass or a similar app; I’ve watched cooking courses by Thomas Keller and Alice Waters, writing courses by Margaret Atwood and Malcom Gladwell, photography by Jimmy Chin, & more. These have a fee, but there are also many free online sources on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook live; you can learn bartending, cooking, woodworking, painting, ukulele, and so much more.

  5. Host a watch party on Facebook live. My bestie invited us to watch her friend giving a live concert; which was great! We got to see him play and sing (which he has been doing almost nightly) and those of us in her party were able to talk to each other while we watched it together.

  6. Film yourself making a meal at home and share your video with friends. If you show it live on Facebook, you can talk to your friends as they join you. It’s a good way to stay connected and share ideas to cook creatively using only what you have on hand.

  7. Enjoy a date night at home. get dressed up, make a nice dinner, then attend a concert or watch a movie online.

  8. Cozy up to a fire on your patio! Grab a bevvie (and your Bluetooth speakers, if you have ‘em) and relax!

  9. Play a game with a friend over Google Duo or Facetime. I played Scrabble with my GF who usually comes over for dinner once a week; we had to get creative with the filming, but we made it work, and had a great time.

  10. Try a new exercise at home, do yoga indoors or in your yard, or if you can, go for a walk near your home and look for signs of spring. It’s important for your mental and physical well-being to keep moving. I find that I feel better every time I make it outside, especially on the crappy gloomy days I don’t feel like it. We take the dog for a walk outside every day, being careful to keep our distance from others, and not wandering far from home.

Here’s hoping you all the best in health & happiness! Please comment and share your ideas below for adventures to try at home.
