Hi.

Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy my shared adventures in the Northwoods and the City!

Game Night

Game Night

Tonight's adventure involves some of my very favorite things: spending time with friends, playing games, laughing, eating & drinking. I have set aside my very favorite moose-themed game (moose farkel) to bring, because I secretly believe everyone should love this game, so I have more people to play it with. I have a very bad case of cabin fever, so pretty much all I want to do right now is cook, eat, read, drink, put together puzzles, and play games.

Right now, ModernLumberjack & I are pre-eating leftover homemade carolina BBQ brisket and mashed potatoes, just 2 hours before the dinner party is supposed to begin because: A) it's freaking delicious B) I was hungry and C) I don't want to over-eat at the party. Weekends in winter can be weird like that for us anyway. We usually try to sleep in a bit (to ~ 8 a.m.), then have a big breakfast, then maybe a small snack mid-afternoon, and/or an early dinner/late dinner. It's chaos, and based completely on whatever sounds good. We try to go with the flow, which is awesome, because Monday through Friday is full of doing stuff other people want us to do.

Tonight we have to turn back the clocks because of New Zealand scientist George Vernon Hudson and British builder William Willett, who, according to www.timeanddate.com, put the idea in everyone's head. Apparently "In 1895, Hudson presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society, proposing a 2-hour shift forward in October and a 2-hour shift back in March. In 1905, independently from Hudson, British builder William Willett suggested setting the clocks ahead 20 minutes on each of the 4 Sundays in April, and switching them back by the same amount on each of the 4 Sundays in September, a total of 8 time switches per year."

What the??? While I'm glad that it didn't go down quite like that, let me put this other idea into your heads. Instead of Daylight Savings Time, let's create Daylight Spending Time, where we spend more time each day doing simple things that bring us joy. You are welcome for the good idea.
